Since 2000 I have built several websites on Yahoo Geocities Free. Each year has gotten worse as Geocities arbitrarily censors and bans websites. In 2000 the Geocities Directory worked well and you could like your site pages by content. They starting banning and delisting anything remotely political or controversial, until by 2007, Geocities directory is broken and no one can list anything. This is political censorship same as Yahoo China uses to ban websites. One of my websites published a few Abu Grhaib prison torture photos and within a few weeks Geocities deleted and banned entire website without notice, with only one explanation: "Your website has been deleted due to violation of content agreement." Geocities Help still advises posting your website to the Geocities Directory, which is now completely disabled. Try posting any website to any category and it just warns: "Hey kids you must post to the Yahooligans Kids directory!" This is deliberate. Geocities knows we are not kids. Geocities simply decided to kill their directory without explanation. No one can post any website on their directory now. But instead of admitting it, Geocities admits nothing but, well, we cannot list your website since you are a "kid." I tried emailing Geocities and Yahoo, and even called Yahoo at their home office in Sunnyvale. They absolutely will not offer any explanation or excuse for their broken Geocities Directory and their lousy customer service. Geocities is a joke. No one serious about their website should use Geocities. No customer service. No explanation. Blatant political censorship. Geocities is worthless.
