Old-fashioned looking but solid

I have been with XO (before that with Concentric) for over 3 years, and have had no major problems with them. Negligble downtime, no lost emails or files. I'm UK-based, and have to email them to renew my domains (.co.uk ones), which is slightly irritating, but they have acted promptly on it. Ditto any other queries - they respond to emails.
I've been on fairly low traffic, so can't comment on whether they scale up well, but they've been great for me.

I am sure this is a fine host for somebody who just wants to throw a few html pages up with a couple of jpgs, but if you actually want to build a site with a database and content management, shoot yourself now if you are using XO. This host is up there with yahoo! and godaddy, but I am willing to say it is even worse than both of those. What a headache. Yahoo! and godaddy at least have customer support...
The worst thing about XO is that on top of an archaic system that never gets updated and is never running the most recent software, their customer service is atrocious. They don't have technical support because I am almost willing to bet money that you know more about web hosting than the people on the other end of the phone.
.htaccess files don't work, even thought they say they do, and their phone support had no idea what that is. It appears they don't support innoDB or MyIsam. When I try to run simple php contact forms that run on multiple other servers with no issues, it breaks with a 501 error.
I submitted a problem via their online contact form because I was told that was the only way to get a hold of somebody who actually knew what they were doing. A MONTH later I got a response that barely even addressed my issue.
Their online admin area is old, and it is bulky and hard to navigate on top of being ugly.
If you are looking at XO, go the opposite direction.

XO is a service I was pretty satisfied with from the start. They provide a nice and powerful interface to manage every aspect of the hosting. The interface is largely inherited from Concentric Network Corporation which operated the service when I started hosting with them.
The reason I've been planning to move away from XO is that their virtual hosting service doesn't scale financially and storage-wise. I've been hosting our main web site there and over time the traffic grew beyond 100 GB per month. Guess how much we've been paying for that. $250 per month and sometimes more - a price that gets you a whole dedicated server with at least 200 GB of transfer included.
I recently moved our main downloads (which account for the majority of the transfer volume) over to Amazon S3 where I pay something like $10 per month for the 100 GB or so per month.
My other peeve is that XO's pricing for disk storage beyond the 500 MB almost amounts to extortion. What's the cost of disk space these days, a dollar a GB? Well, they're willing to sell you extra disk storage beyond the 500MB allowance for something like 100 or 1000 times that amount. That's just ridiculous, and they aren't willing to deviate from that policy unless you open a dedicated server account. So I am going to open a dedicated server account - just some place else.
Apart from these peeves, their customer service is acceptable, what they provide works and their uptimes are good. As long as you don't exceed the storage and transfer volume limits. If you do, you'll be paying like crazy.

I have never had a preoblem. In 6 years I don't ever remember my site or my email going down. Customer Service is prompt and efficient.

El servicio funciona muy mal, los servidores estan caidos muchos dias al mes y tiene serios problemas tecnicos. Estoy desde hace 4 años cuando era 9NetAvenue y luego Concentric y el servico ha decaido mucho.
