I'm a web designer/developer who has been using Westhost to host my and my clients' sites for years. They offer great features in their Virtual Private Server packages that make my job easier. Uptime is very good, and when problems do arise they offer strong support. While supporting more than 30 sites with them, I have to deal with tech support on a monthly basis, and it is normally quick and always helpful.

They used to be good. Then they messed up my account information after a beta upgrade--they claim I am using 152% of my allotted disk space, when I am only using around 50% (confirmed by a tech). I keep receiving emails that my site will soon not work if this continues. I submitted a help ticket, but instead of receiving any help, I got an email from a sales rep stating that I should solve my problem by upgrading to a more expensive plan. Then he marked my ticket as "resolved," even though nothing has been resolved, and I continue to get the warning e-mails. I am switching soon; I am so done with inferior customer support (or sales teams taking over tech support--what is that??).

I host my storefront using Miva 5 with Westhost upon importing the data roughly 14MB and at the middle of it the server stated: application timed out. I contact tech support, over two weeks they can't solve the problem. they blame on Miva. it takes over 5 differences tech support and you will going nowhere. Each time you contact them you will get a ticket and different tech support.

I agree. They did have a meltdown and they did recover. I use Karen's Net Monitor to watch both commercial domains hosted with them. The uptime for each is now at least 4 nines.

While WestHost did suffer setbacks after installing 2.0 They have rebounded and are quite stable. Speed for the most part is not an issue when accessing the site etc, though in the CPanel and FTP one does have the occassional wait
