Front tech support is very inexperienced but pretends to know - which is worse than saying I don't know and passing the call up. Wasted so much of my time, they apologized. But still support knows very little. Slow and very expensive. I am in the midst of moving my client base. Do not recommend them at all for anything. I know it's hard to find a good hosting company, but Verio is definitely not a good one. Don't waste your time.

Verio has poor customer service and technical support. They are slow to respond to calls as well as resolve issues. Perhaps the final straw is when I got locked out of my database
(the plan does not provide db privileges) and
they basically refused to reset it using "flush host" privileges. I am going to do some lengthy research to find a hosting company that works and move away from Verio.

Simply the worst hosting that I have ever had to deal with, control panel is next to useless.

Support is totally lacking, the only time they call back is when its a salesman trying to sell you an upgrade.

I am stuck with them as the compnay i work for has always used them and can't be bothered to change....... more fool them.

I can't express how I hate the web panel and email hosting plans. I didn't chose them as my employer had before I got here. Now I want to make our website feature rich and dynamic but I can't.

If I could reach someone on the phone with answers to my questions it would help. I sent an email that apparently got lost.

There are other hosting companies out there with so much more to offer. Use them!!

I am currently in the process of moving my sites off of Verio servers. My most recent problem was a problem downloading POP email. My user ID and Password were being rejected even when I telneted into their POP server. The tech tried to blame my ISP so I switched to my backup ISP and still could not login. I worked my way up to the next tier of support and got the same run around, but magically the problem cleared in about a half and hour. They followed up with an email which was a form response denying any problem.

I also experienced several days of downtime following one of the hurricanes.

I cannot recommend Verio. Their control panel is years behind the rest of the industry. They also provide no way for me to back up my site to a zip or gzip file which can be downloaded.

Too much down-time

I've been using Verio for over 2 years now and as of late, I have been experiencing a lot of downtime specifically with connecting to their SQL Server. In the month of November we had a total of 20 hours of down-time in a three day time span between the 26th thru the 29th mostly during prime-time (between noon and 9:00 P.M.). In December we have (as of 12/11/2008) experience 10 hours of downtime around the same time frame. When I called in the issue, no-one could give me an estimated time frame of when the server would be up again.

After speaking with a supervisor about the issue, I was informed that the server had hardware issues, which I do not believe because if it was a hardware issue, it would have been resolved in November when the problems was first reported.

According to the errors that I have been receiving, the problem is that Verio is directing too many of its shared hosting customers to the same SQL Server machine, resulting in the server not being able to handle all the requests (the bottle neck effect). This is usually done by smaller hosting companies trying to save on software licensing fees and hardware cost, so it is really surprising to see that I’ve been experiencing this was Verio.

Verio is supposed to be one of the better web hosting companies on the market, but lately, they have been far from that.

Very disappointed.

This is by far the worst hosting company around. The technical support is absolutely appalling. After saying I did not want a restore initially, they went ahead and restored whilst moving us from a 2000 SQL databse to a 2005 SQL database and we lost THOUSANDS of news articles. We asked for a new restore back to a date and our database was apparently restored. They charged us $50 and then ended up losing the restore file TWICE!

They then told me to change my user to DBO to download the database and their useless control panel did not allow me. I am still waiting for this, it has been a week now and, for an entertainment website.

DO NOT HOST WITH THIS COMPANY!

We have never experienced a worse hosting company than Verio! Everyday, it was like a Pokergame. "Are we up" ? In the first two month of hosting, we where off line almost every day! What a nightmare. After one hour on the phone with Technical Service, they brought the site up again, until it was offline next day. This went on and on and on... We lost pretty much all of our customers. The e-commerce site, we wanted to start never took off because it was offline all the time. We also filed a formal complain with the BBB. Total lost approx. 50.000 Dollar. Thanks Verio!

Verio has been excellent to me with their customer support as well as the uptime and speed of their servers. They made the migration of my website and domain to their company a breeze. The upload/download speeds are impressive. I was able to upload content at nearly 3 megs a second sustained (using a T3), and download speeds are just as impressive. My clients are also pleased, receiving content at their maximum bandwidth (streaming media). Although they are a bit pricey compared to other cheaper hosts, Verio makes up for it with rock solid reliability and speed.

I originally hosted with Best Internet, which Verio swallowed up a number of years ago - maybe 10 years total.

My erly experiences were all positive. In recent years, email has down a lot, and the tech support has gotten continually worse. It's gotten so that in the last year, initial emails to report a problem or submit a question only get an auto-response with no followup. You CAN manage to get support by phone, but waiting on hold has grown beyond 30 minutes. Then you may or may not get someone with any technical expertise. The techs have even instructed me to read the FAQs about something, when the reason I was calling was to find out something the FAQs (obviously outdated) were incorrect about.

I was completely offline for days following the Wilma hurricane that swept through Florida where their data center is located. They didn't have backup. Also, since their primary and secondary DNS servers were in the same location, those trying to email us were getting bounced mail that stated our domain didn't exist.

Yes, this downtime was related to a natural disaster, but that experience illustrates how dim the "technology bulb" is at Verio. Speaking of which, the last straw for me (I'm switching hosts) was their new SPAM filtering of outgoing email. (That's right... they have their SPAM filters checking outgoing mail from their customers... the reason for this I was told was so that the Verio servers would not be blacklisted!) Anyway, I type a few words like "vitamin" (one of my clients manufactures nutritional supplements) in an email and their SMTP server refuses to accept the message for delivery. I asked why mail originating from their clients wasn't "whitelisted" and was told the technological overhead for that was too high.

Bye-bye Verio
