Leaving ValueWeb is a nightmare. You can tell them to cancel the service, pay their bill in full, take their confirmation number, but then they will send another bill and claim they have no record of you asking them to close your account. I have been trapped by this unethical outfit for 5 years, basically being coerced into giving them more money for services not rendered, or being sent to collection, even though I have repeatedly paid their stupid bill. This time, I'm doing it via a Florida-based attorney. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCAM ARTISTS!

I had a client for whom I was designing a website for their new small business. Since they were planning to expand to e-commerce at a later time, I chose ValueWeb because the 250Meg server space seemed to be more than what my client would eventually need. I'd never used ValueWeb before, but figured that it would be no problem. We got the domain name registered through NetSol, but two weeks and several e-mails later, we hadn't received a single e-mail from them and, from all appearances, they'd never done anything. I decided to "fire" them and went with a small local webhost, which was more than helpful, and within a few hours had everything up and running. I'll never use ValueWeb for anything again and would encourage others to shun them likewise.

I've used ValueWeb for a few years now. Price is higher than I would like. I've not had problems with reliability or getting help on issues.

Email tech support is usually pretty responsive. I like the Control Panel interface, provides complete configuration options.

Last year they changed their webmail interface and I lost all my address book entries, signatures, etc... Was not happy with that. The new webmail interface is pretty clunky, no import/export of address books allowed. I'm looking around for another provider.

Purchased a linux dedicated server with all the accompanying programs to manage it.

Great prices and relatively timely when technical support problems and inquiries are the norm i.e (DNS resolving, etc). These are all "level 1 - trouble tickets". Nice tech support people, but once the trouble becomes a little more involved they send you to Level 2.

We spoke 3 different level support people that really hated their job. Extremely uncaring and awful at any problem solving. Mostly tells you what they think you are doing wrong and regard you as someone who knows nothing.

(The problem was a simple ISP to DNS misconfiguration in their part.) Didn't even want to acknowledge that or fix it.

Another problem arose: Our business is integrated with Netscape for more than 5 years now and somehow their server didn't jive well with it's outgoing mail.

Level 2 solution: Don't use Netscape just switch to outlook. All I could say to the person was "duh".

Solution: Go to other hosting companies. They pop up everywhere - their hungrier and will cater to you and are genuinely more concerned.

The web site that I hosted there never had any issues. It was always up. The problem with valueweb is the constant downtime with email. The email is down at least once a week. And when the email goes down it goes down for the rest of the work day and doesn get resolved until 3AM in the morning. Tech Support is no help, and it takes forever to get to them if you do get to them. Im in the process of looking for a new host with better email capabilities. They have had email issues the whole time I have been with them.

During the three years I've had our company site with ValueWeb, I've seen a lot of changes, and had to use many aspects of their tech support, features and control panel.

I've had a very good experience for the most part. With few exceptions their tech support has been excellent, even going 'beyond the call of duty' in some cases. It has been polite and competent for the presented issues. I've been able to use the control panel with little problem; sometimes when they are making a major change (like happened recently) things can happen, but that can be part of anyone's business upgrade. The glitches were small and fixed promptly.

Once the disk failed on the server we use and it was taken care of immediately as well.

We have changed domains, plans and migrated to other servers without trouble.

The only reason these guys don't get a 10 is the email 'thing'. It has been better in general since their last recent upgrade, but because of all the 'anti-spamming' activity their email servers can be flaky and sometimes unreliable. Since our company does not have its own email server and uses a T1 line to the I'net we rely on Valueweb for all company email. Luckily, nothing really bad has happened to us so far in this department, but it can make me edgy at times.

I have feeling if we leave VW it will be because of both the email irregularities, and the fact they don't have a Windows hosting option, which our company is moving towards (which is not my choice BTW.)

I was with value web for 3 years, they sucked then I found Dream Host.
