no complaints at all. i guess could be a little cheaper? but really i'm afraid to try some of the ultra-cheap hosts i see advertised. i don't mind paying a few bucks extra - i don't make money off my site but it still means a lot to me. no downtimes that i've ever noticed. i have a free monitor thing i signed up for and it's never showed my site down. i have several things that run automatically each day and they never fail. nick in customer service is excellent and saved me on different times when i screwed things up. i'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

Wow, when I read some of these other reviews I'm not sure what to think. Either these are just competitors putting up fake reviews or some people with some really bad luck, I don't know.
I've hosted probably four sites with phpwebhosting over the past five or six years. All have been great in just about every respect.
I've also used a bunch of other hosts when working on other peoples sites. Some I've used just a little and others way too much. None have went as smoothly as with php. If I could talk all my clients into moving there I would but most would rather not hassle with moving.
Maybe I just don't need a lot of help but I can't remember a time when my support requests weren't answered quickly and with good replies. I might have to wait a few hours sometimes but I'd rather wait a bit than get quick cut and paste replies.

A long time ago, I got my own website for my consulting company. After months of searching and trying many many discount hosts that gave me less than I paid for, I came across phpwebhosting.com. All was good at that point.
While only $10 a month, it provided me with great reliable hosting and even better tech support. That was in 1999. By 2003 I had moved all of my client's sites to phpwebhosting.com and everything was still good. Of course there were now cheaper discount hosts (some for as low as $4 a month!), but I stayed with phpwebhosting.com b/c of the great past and present service. Trouble tickets were usually answered within a few hour and never more than 24. They were very flexible with helping on setups and allowed many useful options. Having your own box wouldn't have offered much more than what these folks provided.
In 2001 there was a few months of a problem with their mail servers bouncing email. It seemed random and was sporatic enough and I got a good enough answers to my trouble tickets, that I did't leave. However that should have been the first warning to leave.
Then 2004 arrived. AOL and other ISPs started blocking email sent from phpwebhosting.com servers. I managed to work around the problem, but I had no idea what had happened in the background. Then one day, I noticed that instead of one of my domains going to phpwebhosting.com's server, it was going to theplanet.com's. After more research it appeared that theplanet.com had taken over phpwebhosting.com, or at the very least phpwebhosting.com was just reselling theplanet.com's stuff. Frankly knowing theplanet.com's reputation for hosting spammers I should have left right away. But I still thought phpwebhosting.com's past great service meant that they'd get things back on track soon.
I worked around these problems all through 2004 and most of 2005. However at the end of 2005 things really took a nose dive. One client's site was down for 5-6 hours a day for an entire week. No warning, no appology, and no responce to the trouble ticket. Then all of the clients started to be blocked again by AOL. Then worse my personal account could not recieve email. It was the same problem from 2001 only this time it was happening almost all the time.
Since the nose dive started just before Christmas, I gave them a week to reply to the trouble ticket (in the past it was normally only 24hr or less). Then I raised the level of the ticket and asked for an update. Since New Year's was just around the corner, I gave them another week to do something. Nothing happened.
At this point, I started to get phone calls from people asking why my email was bouncing or why their site was down. The ticket was already at the emergency level, so I again asked for an update. Still nothing by the end of the first week in Jan.
I began the really annoying task of seeking out a new webhost. Meanwhile the clock was ticking on the trouble ticket. The 2nd week in Jan was gone and I had found the place I would move some of my clients (other's I decided to set up on their own servers). The end of Jan, I finally moved the last of my domains from phpwebhosting.com (which I think is now controlled by theplanet.com). Over a month had gone by and there was still no answer to the trouble ticket.
I can only say that for many years phpwebhosting.com was really great for a long time. I would love to know what happened in 2004 that completely ruined their service. However the damage is done, I'll never go back to them and I hope no one else uses them either.
I didn't give them all 1's in my rating b/c of their past good service. However if I was just rating them on the last few months that I had them, they'd be all 1's.

just getting worse

They started out okay about three years ago, but as time passes we have removed our websites from their servers because the downtime is unbearable. We had 8 packages with them at one time and it is now down to two - and we will move those soon too. Our website traffic was starting to really suffer because the websites would always be down. Even when it was working it would be really slow.
I don't recommend anyone use them.

Price wise they are very competative but as we all know when you need support its vital it is fast and solutions are found in order to get your web site running asap.
Phpwebhosting used to be a excelent service and support was 1st class, over the years it has declinned to the point where support ticket go unread.
There is no contact with this company outside the "ticket" system. My site was courupted due to a process been turned off by PHPwebhosting staff (they allowed this process) and 5 days later still no word when they might perform a restore from backups.
I used to enjoy this hoster and indeed reconmended their service to many. but over last 2 years it has declined to something of a farce of extreamly poor support which costs my company a lot of money. Stay away from this hoster.

I have a website that currently gets 10,000+ page views per day. I
have been using PHP Webhosting for several years and I am extremely pleased with them.
My site has never had any downtime since I have been with them.

Over the years since I have used this hoster it seems to become a less attractive hoster.
You get a lot within a basic hosting passage but when something goes wrong and not a easy fix you seem to have problems. But they usually try to bend over backwards to help some times. They upgrade without notice making some applications fail which you only find out about after emailing support. There is no telephone support, only tickets. So many tickets can be just ignored.
Sadly phpwebhosting support is letting the service fail.
