My web development firm has been using OLM for over 5 years. When we first started using them they were wonderful. They were reliable, quick to respond, and friendly.
However, over the past few years, we have seen their quality of service steadily decline to a level that is absolutely unbearable. We decided earlier this year to begin migrating our several dedicated servers away from them, and at this point, we just can't get away fast enough.
I recommend avoiding OLM at all cost.

You may find a very positive review by me several years ago, but now it is completely different. I believe it was early this year that they moved their servers and thing went from bad to terrible. The biggest problem is server just completely not working. This happens about 24 hours per month, and I am paying $36 a month. This is completely unacceptable. It's infuriating that they usually are not aware of the server being down until i call. They'll even claim "the server has not been down for 87 days" but a script i run on their server to check their server indicates that is was very erratic if not completely not working for 10 of those supposed 87 days. I had to write the script to prove to them their server was not server web pages. Their best were completely blind. Thay do not adjust your rate plan down as their prices are lowered. You have to keep an eye on it and ask for the new rate. Tech support used to be very fast (less than 1 minute to get a talented american technician) now it's 5 to 10 minutes to get an inept foreigner. They are very much overpriced these days. I've lost 10 times more business because of their bad quality than what their hosting service costs. They seemed so trustworthy and reliable in tyhe beginning (10 years ago when i started) that it's been hard for me to accept the new situation that's been getting progressively worse for 2 years. As their customer base decreases, i expect things to get even worse until they bow out or are forced out by lawsuits. If you are with them, i recommend jumping ship now before you wake one morning with no more web site and a company that can't be contacted. That's what i woke up to yet again this morning, but one day it's not going to be working in the next 6 hours because they'll be out of business. I've stayed with them this long only because of the hassle of moving to another company. Here aer the access times from my script mentioned above for the last few minutes. This has been going on for two hours so far. This happens about 3 times a month for the past 8 months. The numbers at the end are the seconds it took for the server to reply to itself. Timeouts are not listed.

overpriced and underserviced - Review

I recently became administrator of a website for a writer's group that has used OLM since 2001. I was shocked to learn that olm.net charges the group the same rate that it did in 2001 for their basic plan (as defined in 2001).
My plan is to cancel our subscription and move to a new web server. I'd like to learn whether we will get refunded the difference if we cancel before our subscription is up. Their sale dept. does not answer the phone nor respond to numerous email inquiries in regards to this question.
I am so frustrated by this company and would not recommend them to anyone.

Their web servers go down frequently causing many of my settings to be lost and making my page unavailable.
My site was recently down for 7 days! Durring this time they stopped accepting calls to tech support due to "technical difficulties".
The technical administrator didn't return phone calls after he said he would.
They neglected to inform me about the status of their recovery when my site went down for 7 days after they had agreed to my request that they do so. They didnt even give me an email when they were about to upgrade their hardware and move my website to a different machine warning me that there may be technical difficulties. This would have helped me be better prepared.
In short, there is no way that this could have been a more frustrating experience.

For the last year, OLM servers have gone down 4 times, every time over 2 hours (and once as long as 5.5 hours). Customer service is horrible - your typical call center where the agents follow instructions to the letter and are unable to offer a valid explanation. "They are working on it" seems to be the #1 repeated phrase. Hold times for any phone call are always over 15 minutes. My advice - if you don't like Walmart, you won't like OLM.

I am a reseller with OLM. We HAD over 40 customers using OLM. Our OLM server went down and after 3 days of no site/access/or emails and worse yet, no communication with OLM they informed us that our site and our customer sites we all gone. They could not recover any of them or thier data. I offered to pay for a data recovery team to come to thier location. Here is the response from supervisor Deep "Due to security reasons we are not able to allow outside firms come in to work on data recovery. in our data center. We have had our in-house consultants work on this issue and have determined that data is not recoverable." OLM repsonded poorly and offered us nothing but a free upgrade to our hosting plan!!! Most of our customers relied on OLM for thier backup and OLM said their backup was also corrupted. OLM's response is that we should have had a back-up of thier back-up and will not respond to me or any of my customers. So now its water under the bridge for them but OLM has crippled many businesses who some have lost years worth of data. I would not use OLM for any business sensitive Website. Maybe a personal site where you dont care if its down for 3-4 days and have no critical data.

I have had my main domain hosted by OLM for several years now. The things I like about OLM:
1. Reliable hosting. My web page almost never goes down. It's a little more expensive then some other places, but I don't have to worry about the page going down. The piece of mind over the last few years -- not having to worry about regular calls to the vendor to fix problems -- is worth a lot to me.
2. Customer service / technical support is often very helpful and can be reached without much time on hold.
Problems I've had with OLM:
1. Their Spam protection sucks (i.e., bad, useless). About one year ago that had no spam protection and I was about to switch hosts to cut down on the 200-300 spams per day I was getting. Then they started testing Spam protection software which, according to them, used SPEWS (a pretty strict and activist spam protection org). Spam was cut down to 5 to 10 per day. Someone must have complained because they settled on another system that basically blocks hardly anything. I now get 150+ spams per day.
2. While customer service is pretty good, if the first level of customer service can't answer your question, they are very reluctant to find someone who can answer your question in my experience. I have this experience with Procmail questions, spam questions and other questions.
I pay approximately $35 per month for domain hosting. I'm not sure what disk space I'm getting. I think it's around 600 MB and 30 GB transfer per month. I come pretty close to both of those limits.
There are other web hosting solutions that include good spam protect so that you and others on the domain are not innundated with spam. On the other hand, if you use your own client-side spam protection software, then it might not be so bad. Web page up-time and ease of contacting customer service is a big plus to me.

Very good 24hour service. Had to call them several times around midnight and they were right there. Inexpensive and very reliable, site was never down. Good value, good stats, so-so ecommerce tools (but they were free!). Recommendable to your friends, not to your competition.
