The service was horrible. After having two cases open for over three months, I switched hosting proviers. Their SSH access is worthless. Email is unreliable and limited to only a certain number of connections precluding more than one machine from accessing email.

I've used hostcabin for 3-4 years now. For the first couple years, it was a great hosting service. Not Any More.
In the last year, customer service (via their helpdesk web interface...no phone, no email) has become horribly unresponsive. I have a case that's been open for over 2 months with no resolution...they just keep closing it without solving the problem (ssh access is almost useless due to their attempts to lock it down, including removal of access to things like /bin/ls and /usr/bin/which under the guise of being "secure").
They also keep limiting Imap access and having problems with Smtp which means that I'm stuck without email access at random intervals.
On top of that, they keep moving my account from server to server which impacts the Ssl certificate for Smtp/Imap access. This means I have to change the certificate credentials on every machine I use that accesses my email (several at home, and at least two at work). I'm now on my 5th server-name (for those of you keeping score, that's more than once a year).
I've had problems with them limiting my number of active processes to some obscenely small number to the point where if I were logged in via Ssh and editing a file (with "ed" because they locked down access to vi/vim), I have "too many processes" for my Cgi scripts to run. That has included cPanel (which seems to run as a Cgi) though they at least have this much fixed for now.
The only way to get files onto the server is via Ftp or Http upload. They removed support for rsync and scp. When I'm stuck using dialup on the road, I can't afford *not* to use rsync.
I will certainly not be renewing with them, and am in the process of finding a new hosting service. If I can find one fast enough, I will be seeking a refund on any remainder of my account. For the same offerings, there are many other similarly priced budget hosting services that will gladly take your business and abuse you far less.
