If you are running a business with customers, hostdepartment will cause you to loose money and customers through there frequent down time. Today they are down 12+ and still going. There excuses for being down are just stupid.
If you have a kid site that does not really matter if it is up or not, then hostdepartment is for you. Good price for being down 15% of the time.

First i have to say that i have no expirience with other hosting. i am with hostdeprtment for more than 3 years now, after someone ( i dont recall who ) recomended them because of their low price. at that time in Israel the prices for hosting were very high and it seemd a good deal to me. from then on i had some problems 1) Several times a year few hours no website. 2) not always can send mail and has to resend it. 3) online support takes a lot of time and not very knowledgable. 4)No one to speak with.
SO WHAT ??? 1)they are not promissing 100% up time i can live with 99% ( it means server can be out for 3.5 days each year )
2)the email is a problem but it is solvable by using the isp outgoing server. 3) if no problems who needs support ( just jocking..) it is a problem and i hope they will address it
4) see 3
the bottom line is i was looking for Fiat UNU NOT Ferari. and i get a very good fiat unu i think. last January extended my plan to another 30 months.
when it will end i will shop around.. we will see.

Constant Intermittent Downtime

Since signing up we have at least 5 outages a day and cannot even log into the control panel. When we contact their live support it takes 10-20 minutes to get an answer like..."Can you get into the control panel now?" or "I don't know what could be wrong or where". We get on average 60 or more monitor alerts from all our domains hosted with host deparment stating that either the domain can't be found, there is no response from the server or server error.
The support through ticket system is no better. Their answer is as follows (more than 24 hours after ticket was submitted):

As confirmed by our Technical Support department, the Wheatstone server where your account resides, do not experience any downtime. Slow connection where the web servers are being vacummed/restarted for about 1-10 minutes is not considered as downtime.

If having to constantly vacuum and restart the server isn't down time, them what is it? I'm changing hosts. Host Department is at the bottom of uptime and customer service.
If you are a client of HOSTDEPARTMENT make sure you have your domains monitored to see your constant downtime. OTHERWISE STAY AWAY FROM HOSTDEPARTMENT!

I signed up on Feb 4/08. They have terrible problems with servers being offline. They moved my account once to supposedly take care of the problem but it is even worse now.

I'm experiencing many problem with them they always on daily basis having problem they call that unscheduled maintenance but this is bullsh?t they are none profesional host company because they don't care about the uptime of theire customer but care more about the income they will have by false advertising now 04 January the server it's down for more than 12 hour and i was told that will take another 8 hour i'm a resseler how do you explain that to your customer that your provider s?ck

They started out great but have become an absolute nightmare!
Two of our most important sites have been down for over a week.
Nobody at support seem to care & everyone defers the problem.
Stay away from this company.

I hosted my website (proxyunion.com and proxyunion.org) last month. All of my visitors went away during the first week. The uptime is very low, you even can't access their website. The support is fine but no use. They have given me a lot of good things - 10 IPs and unlimited transfer, but how can I use them? Realy bad host I have never seen!

Premium Plan... Poor Hosting

I have been using their hosting services for four years now and the quality has really digressed. Their customer service skills are non-existent... other than the 'liveperson chat' and that's obviously staffed by an outside source. They have to rebuild their web server hard drives about every six weeks - and sorry our sysadmin is working on that - but your website and domain are down during this time.
Slow transfer speeds, down time, and poor support.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE USING THEIR SERVICES.
