I had been a customer for 11 years, and for most of that time, I was completely satisfied. Then, over a 2 week period, they deactivated my site without any warning whatsoever not once, not twice, but three times.

Incident #1. They said a large amount of spam (they specifically said around 1500) had been sent through my account. I don't send ANY spam, and provide a personal e-mail address for my father. Ok, so he may have picked up a virus on his computer, so they reinstate my web site, I change all the passwords, have my father purchase an antivirus program and scan his computer. It finds nothing. Still a little annoyed that they suspended my site and access to e-mail without any warning and the impact that can have on my business, but I tried to be understanding.

Incident #2. Shortly after getting my site reinstated, I spend a weekend traveling with my father, during which time neither of us are near a computer, and the computers at our respective homes were turned off - meaning neither of us had been sending any email, let alone any spam. Return home to find my site and e-mail have once again been deactivated without warning. I again contact Addr and am informed that spam was again being sent from my account.

I called tech support this time and asked which specific username/login was used to send the spam, and was asked to put the question in an e-mail and send it to support@addr.com. Strange how a supposed tech support rep couldn't answer a seemingly simple question. I initiate a web chat with another support rep and am told they can't answer my question but they'll investigate the issue.

I write a lengthy e-mail explaining the issue and again asking to know what username login the supposed spam was being sent from and reiterating how important it was that my site not be disabled without warning.

Incident #3. A few days later, without warning, I find my site to be deactivated yet again. This time, I call customer service and am told that once again, a large amount of spam had been sent through my account. I once again ask what username it was sent under and they once again can't tell me. I ask for them to check their logs and tell me how many e-mails had been sent from my account and they tell me they don't keep any such logs (yet oddly, they could specifically tell me initially that 1500 spam e-mails has been sent prompting incident #1). They also inform me that, despite having valid credit card information on file, they weren't able to bill me for the past 2 renewals. I ask why they didn't bill me and, as was a habit, they couldn't answer.

At this point, I have no confidence in their service and support and am determined to move my site to a new hosting company. I ask that my site be activated for 1 to 2 hours so I could download my files (several configured CGI scripts including a full shopping cart system). I'm told they'll only reactivate the site after I pay for the previous and current billing periods. The current billing period had just started about a month prior to all this, and I certainly didn't want to pay for a year's worth of this level of service. After upwards of an hour going back and forth between tech support and customer service, they tell me if I pay for the previous year's service, they'll reactivate my site for 1 hour so I can download my files. Since I did receive that year's worth of web hosting, I agree, they reactivate my site, I frantically download my files and go about setting up an account with a new host, transferring my domain name and all that fun stuff.

The total disabling of a customer's web site and e-mail, without any warning whatsoever, is unacceptable even once. That it happened 3 times in about 2 weeks is appalling and speaks volumes about Addr's commitment to what is often a critical service. I would not, under any circumstances whatsoever, recommend anyone do business with Addr.com, and would strongly advise any current customers to consider moving to a new host before they too find their accounts deactivated without warning.

addr is a disaster. Their email servers often go down for hours at a time -- sometimes an entire day. And when their servers do go down, so does all their support. Specifically, their online chat is taken off-line, their voice mail boxes quickly become full, no calls are ever returned, and no updates are put on their home page.

Additionally, addr does not support SSL for email.

All in all, there are MUCH better options than these guys....stay away.

Their security is terrible; my site was thoroughly hacked. My content was wiped out and replaced with hundreds of folders and sub-folders of hacker material.

ADDR put my account on hold. They never notified me. It took me 6 weeks to find out my site was offline. They canceled the hold on the site, and told me to clean up. But I could NOT - the hackers had changed the permissions such that I could not delete their files, and accessing the File Manager through the Cpanel gave system errors.

They would not
(1) restore my content from backup
(2) delete the hacker's files
(3) refund me the 8 months of unused hosting fees when I decided to ditch them.

I have been a faithful customer of ADDR.com for 10 years using it for several different websites--NO MORE!!!

This year they nearly put me out of business for my online classes. I have moved my online school over to BlueHost.com.

I almost lost 2 years of curriculum development and I have lost contact with approximately 1700 people who were registered to take classes at my school.

In the past the ADDR tech support has always been great. But this year they have been the worst. At one point the were completely unreachable for a week and a half. Their phone box for tech support was full "please call back." Their online chat was unavailable.

The very popular and excellent open source software I use for my online classes from Moodle.org uses PHP and a database. ADDR made it impossible for me as the administrator to log into my school--not to mention all my students who had paid for classes.

When I was finally able to get someone in Tech Support they would enable access to my classes so I quickly recovered as much as I could and transferred it to a different hosting service. By the next day I was shut down again. I had to go through this process about 5 times to retrieve my material for my classes.

Needless to say it has been an extremely time consuming and frustrating experience.

addr's support is the worst, and today was the last straw -- their email has been down for most of the DAY, their chat support is off line, their technical support phone line is so backed up that the voice mail box is full and not accepting messages....do yourself a favor and go with a more reputable ISP.

Deceptive billing practices. Watch your credit cards!

I was a ADDR.com web hosting customer back in 2003 but cancelled my account due to one technical issue after another. I cancelled my account properly per their instructions and still have the emails and the fax that I sent confirming my cancellation.

Then, years after I cancelled, ADDR.com billed my credit card $743.21!

I called ADDR.com several times to get a resolution but each time I was told that the issue will need to be reviewed by an account specialist. After several days I received an email stating that my account was reviewed and a refund was denied because my account was not closed. I faxed and mailed all of my correspondence to them but would never talk to me about the issue.

I filed a complaint with my credit card company who reviewed the issue. After several weeks my credit card company notified me that they have removed the charges from my card because ADDR failed to respond to the complaint. My credit card company also stated that they have a history deceptive billing practices by ADDR.com.

If you are a former customer of ADDR.com be sure to cancel the credit card that you've used to order services from them!

Had used ADDR numerous times in past years, but my experience this time was terrible. No one, including the managers, speaks clear audible English, no one would actually listen to what my needs were. So as you can imagine, they failed miserably in servicing my basic web hosting needs. Idiots!

I had an account with Addr.com, which I closed in 2003 due to extremely poor customer service. Now, in 2007, they are trying to say that I owe them almost $500 because my credit card expired in 2003???? I closed the account, got a different hosting company, and years later they are trying to say I owe money? My web site was not visible, so obviously the account was canceled. They either have no idea what is going on, or are deliberately trying to scam me.
