Used to be great value for money and actually quite reliable once up and running. Sure, their servers were a rather overloaded so the worker process kept restarting causing slow startup but that was a reasonable price to pay for the feature/price combo.

But ever since the takeover/migration, my websites are been down and cannot ever work due to one key change in the infrastructure - subdomains are not separate websites.

Now I might be able to fix this with URL redirect but personally I think it's wrong to change the service offering breaking a site.

So actively looking elsewhere which is what I'd recommend to everyone right now.

Avoid at all costs...

I started with WH4L in 1999 when they gave you a simple website FOR LIFE for $8.99. I am a computer programmer and I upgraded several times with them as I learned new online skills and tried new things (e.g. sharepoint, dotnetnuke). At their migration in early 2010 -- they went to he-doublehockysticks. All my domains quit working and support would not do anything but LIE to me about getting it back up. Nothing happened and after 10 days of being down and being lied to every day I closed my account.

Over the years I had about 7 clients that I recommended to WH4L. I am contacting each of them and recommending that they close their accounts at WH4L and move elsewhere.

They sure didn't care that I was leaving them as a customer after almost 11 years... They do NOT value their customers at all. MOST of the time they just read their scripts... that ALWAYS START WITH -

"We are sorry if this caused you inconvenience".... B.S. they are not sorry at all. If you don't pay their fee they respond within days if not hours .. if you have a problem .. expect to be ignored and LIED to .. they are totaly dis-honest.

I’m an old and loyal customer of webhost4life. I used their hosting service for over 5 years and I never had such ridiculous problems with them until the migration of my hosting account.

The new support team will migrate your website files and DBs,but when they do the migration they will lose some of your website files. And when they migrate database, they will move the one months ago instead of the most up to date one. So what you can do towards that is do the migration all over again yourself!!! Get prepared for that!

Very very worst experience with them when it comes to Communicating .

They dont inform about migrations or communicate the down time. Someone who works there at the implentations doesnt understand what Production sites and systems are coz, these guyz take down your sites and data down whenever they like. They dont care for you at all.

I came to this site looking for answers after my website has been down for WEEKS since I was migrated to the new WebHost4Life platform. My first impressions were great, I built a DotNetNuke site and everything was going well....until I was migrated.

My support tickets go unanswered and it appears I will only get help if I pay for a "premium subscription". My last ticket has been open for 6 days. I've just opened a new support ticket demanding a refund of my hosting fees.

My website has been down for so long that the site is now de-indexed from Google. This has cost me a lot of time of money!!

I have been using webhost4life for four years. They were great back then. However, I think they have new owners. Two days ago they moved me to their 'new platform' however, they cloned my database from a month ago. Luckily I have nightly backups on my ftp site and was able to download the data locally. When I asked them to please restore the correct database they ignored me and then pressured me to pay $30 for premium support, which I finally did because I needed this done badly. They still never did it and I spent all night scripting the data and moving it back up by hand.

Then last night my database went down. It still is not up over 10 hours later. All the support people tell me is that they are 'tier 1 support' and that the task is being fixed by 'tier 3 support'. Nothing happens though.

I signed up with DiscountAsp.net last night at 3 am and my site is now operational with them. Luckily I only have one customer and can just give them the new domain name.

Avoid the new 'webhost4life' like the plague!

I moved to Webhost4life when the famed ValueWeb-Hostway debacle trashed all 10 of my sites. Now Webhost4life has done the same thing. All but one of my sites is totally messed up during the transition. You have to realize that this transition was not optional.

Tech support is non-existent. Each time you get in touch with them a different person starts the process all over again. You end up wasting time explaining the problem and all they say is "we'll get back to you"..waiting days you finally have to contact them only to go in circles again. They say you can get better response if you PURCHASE a premium support plan. in my world I call that blackmail...we screw your site up and will only fix it in a hurry if you pay us more money? huh?

When they transitioned the site they used a 6 month old backup to restore the files. Have the pages didn't work and since no-one QA'd the site they posted it anyway with broken links and pages.
for now my first priority is to fix this the best I can.
My second priority is to get my sites as far away from them as I can.

Hi

Just been reading all the horror stories with WH4L, we've had a prettyy big glitch with the migration, with basic stuff like 'add to cart functionality' no longer working.
As with many who have been 'migrated' the old hosting platform was great, I'd made a decison to move over to them from a friend's recommendation and I couldn't have been happier. Cheap, no downtime to speak of, quick etc.

I don't want to use the forum as another stick to beat them with - although they deserve it with the horrendous service they've metered out. I do have a major question though. Are the issues people are facing concernign poor migration processes rather than new set ups on the new platform.
So, basically is the new platform OK if you set up a new account, set the parameters through the control panel and upload your files? Or, is the entire platform ropey?

It seems as though we've all been hit hard and some unfortunately much harder than others. It's s real shame that what was a good (if not great) hosting company has really shot themsleves in the foot.

Regards

Paul

I decided to migrate all my sites (about 20) after having done intensive testing that left me satisfied.
Over time the performance was falling, until yesterday, I received more than 200 alerts of breaking the service (Error Type: 503 Service Unavailable).
The responses of support ranging from a simple "after we realized tests we conclude that it's all okay" to "sorry for the inconvenience" or "we put your site on a dedicated server," which was clearly a lie, because I found that it was hosted in a server with more 150 other sites. When I showed the list of my IP neighbors they did not respond.
Currently I am in a panic because they do not inspire any confidence and I'm having terrible problems with my clients.
Moral: if you want to go bankrupt host your sites in Webhost4life.

The new WebHost4life became a disaster

I thought that is only me but is not... I am customer with wH4L for more than 5 years and I have been very very pleased with their services and tech support. I contacted their tech team very rear, but when I did it they got back to me in minutes, mostly hours. I recommended all of my customers to their host.

Three weeks ago I created an account for a new customer of mine, and it was done on the new platform. The account that I have is still on the old platform. I built his website and test it on my old platform where everything was working fine. Two days ago I moved the codes over to his account. Surprise: some DLL from the bin folder were not loaded by the server. This caused that all the static URLs that I had were not converted in dynamic one so none of the links were working. Every link was returning a 404 error. Using Intelligencia.UrlRewriter.dll you can create static URLs for SEO purpose but convert them on the server in dynamic one.

So, I tried to get in touch with the new support team to help me resolving this issue ASAP, since my customer was loosing business for every minute that his website was not running properly. This is when, for the first time in more than 5 years, I was TOTALLY SHOCKED by their lack of professionalism. They passed me over from one to another, sent to live chat which is just a robot, and when I called them and I complained that I didn’t get a response from them in hours the tech team told me that their response time in 24 to 48 hours. I couldn’t believe my years. Are these people out of their mind? Anyhow, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I waited 24 hours. After 24 hours I saw a status in the ticket stating “work in progress”. That’s it. No details, no nothing. Just work in progress. I waited 12 hours and I called them again. They told me that the request is in process. I told them that I can not wait any longer because my customer is loosing business, and if they don’t solve the problem in 2 hours I will have to close the account and move to another provider. They told me that they will solve it and will get back to me.

I waited 5 more hours and nobody got back to me, the problem was not solved, so I closed that account. As a transition, I will host my customer’s website on my own account which is on the old platform, but I will have look around for another hosting company. I don’t want the same thing to happen with me when my account will be transferred to the new platform.

It is said that such a great company made such a bad move.

Can you guys recommend any good ASP.NET web hosting company?
