I thought that is only me but is not... I am customer with wH4L for more than 5 years and I have been very very pleased with their services and tech support. I contacted their tech team very rear, but when I did it they got back to me in minutes, mostly hours. I recommended all of my customers to their host.
Three weeks ago I created an account for a new customer of mine, and it was done on the new platform. The account that I have is still on the old platform. I built his website and test it on my old platform where everything was working fine. Two days ago I moved the codes over to his account. Surprise: some DLL from the bin folder were not loaded by the server. This caused that all the static URLs that I had were not converted in dynamic one so none of the links were working. Every link was returning a 404 error. Using Intelligencia.UrlRewriter.dll you can create static URLs for SEO purpose but convert them on the server in dynamic one.
So, I tried to get in touch with the new support team to help me resolving this issue ASAP, since my customer was loosing business for every minute that his website was not running properly. This is when, for the first time in more than 5 years, I was TOTALLY SHOCKED by their lack of professionalism. They passed me over from one to another, sent to live chat which is just a robot, and when I called them and I complained that I didnât get a response from them in hours the tech team told me that their response time in 24 to 48 hours. I couldnât believe my years. Are these people out of their mind? Anyhow, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I waited 24 hours. After 24 hours I saw a status in the ticket stating âwork in progressâ. Thatâs it. No details, no nothing. Just work in progress. I waited 12 hours and I called them again. They told me that the request is in process. I told them that I can not wait any longer because my customer is loosing business, and if they donât solve the problem in 2 hours I will have to close the account and move to another provider. They told me that they will solve it and will get back to me.
I waited 5 more hours and nobody got back to me, the problem was not solved, so I closed that account. As a transition, I will host my customerâs website on my own account which is on the old platform, but I will have look around for another hosting company. I donât want the same thing to happen with me when my account will be transferred to the new platform.
It is said that such a great company made such a bad move.
Can you guys recommend any good ASP.NET web hosting company?

The current disaster, because of ownership change, at WebHost4Life is third time ownership change for a hosting company has caused me a tremendous loss. This type of business plan should be stopped. So I have started a blog to determine if others have losses where proper compensation can be achieved.

Migration A Disaster - New Ownership ??

I have 2 sites hosted. Ran well prior to migration. Following migration(and new ownership) has been a nightmare.
1. File Permissions were not migrated.
2. Default files for each site not migrated.
3. Mime Types not migrated.
4. User stats clumpled in to a single report and update only when manually chosen.
5. Emails cannot be accessed.
Each of the above were discovered in the agony of me trying to find out what was wrong. Took about a month where my sites were not running properly. Still not fixed.
I think they have a new ownership where technical abilities and customer support are lacking for what used to be a good hosting site. What a shame to be sold out to a bunch of bean counters! I'm exiting this company asap.

Webhost4life is an awful host.
It took me over 4 weeks to get one ticket resolved on helpdesk.
They didn't honour their uptime guarantee- and they didn't seem to escalate issues with downtime.
When I tried to upgrade to an Exchange server, it crashed my email service. I tried to call them, and they kept me on hold for 20 minutes before hanging up on me. They didn't seem to have any resolution for my issues- just automated responses from their 'Live Chat' help and slow responses from helpdesk.
Find another host!

I used WebHost4Life for about 6 years and have several domains with them. Im using anything from simple Frontpage sites to complex asp.NET and php-based sites. I'm also hosting a Microsoft Sharepoint site.
So far WebHost4Life did a great job. Even their control panel was not the best in the industry (smiles) I had no reason to leave for two simple reasons:
1) no one offered the broad range of services at a compareable price!
2) their customer suppport was outstandig, in my opinion simply the best!
Now, they seem to fail and if that doesn't change quickly, I will look for another hosting company. The automated transition process got stuck and I decided to change to a manual transition. However this failed and I did not get any of my sites to the new platform!
I contacted support and even offered to rebuild some of my sites from scratch, but they asked me to go back and let them restart the automated process. Something happened the same day, but the transition failed again. 3 days later they obviousely tried again without luck! Since then my transition process got stuck again. After nothing happened for another three days, I wrote a ticket to ask them what's going on and whether they expect me to take any action. But nothing happens. No answer at all! I'm still waiting.
After that bad experience I started to do some research and tried to find out who's behind the new company. Well, I was not surprised to find bad reviews from similar transitions done by a company at the same address in the past.
I wanted to host a new website with them by the end of February, but after all, I definitly have to find another partner!

Up until the recent site transition to new servers I've been fairly happy with the hosting. I've hosted 3 DotNetNuke sites and 2 Wordpress sites since 2004. For the $9.95/month I thought it was a pretty decent deal.
The other day it was my turn to start transitioning the sites to their new infrastructure. Pages were getting kind of chuggy on the existing sites so I was happy that they were investing in newer infrastructure to make things quicker. Well, unfortunately that hasn't transpired. Pages that were taking 3-4 seconds on the current servers are now taking 30-40 seconds on the new servers. I've posted old and new urls with page load times and haven't heard back from support about how they are going to remedy the situation so needless to say I've been looking at alternative hosting for the past couple of days and will most likely transition away from Webhost4Life in the next week or so if nothing is done to remedy the lousy load times.

I've been with Webhost4Life for years and have been very satisfied. Little downtime, sites worked, and support, the few times needed, was responsive.
It looks like WH4L sold out to another company, and the operations have moved from CA to MA. I was given notice of the transition and hoped all would be well. My sites are pretty vanilla, with just some dynamic database driven ASP pages here and there.
The transition of my sites was inept and incomplete. My dynamic pages were down for almost two weeks. First, they totally failed to move the databases. Duh! Isn't that a KEY part of a transition! When I brought this to their attention, they told me to log into the old system's control panel and do a data dump BUT COULDN'T TELL ME THE URL TO REACH THE OLD CONTROL PANEL! Then they told me to call the old support number, where I was on hold for 30 minutes before giving up. Finally, I found a reference to something called a transition kiosk where I could go to the old control panel and make my own SQL Server backup. (Don't you think they could have done this.)
So I ftp them the backup to do a restore into the new database. But the dynamic pages still don't work, because the connection string they indicated in their less-than-comprehensive Knowledge Base didn't work. Their tech support took over a week to work out what the correct connection string should be. (It required a named instance, and I even said in one email 'I think the problem is I need to know my named instance'.)
I think part of the issue is that the old WH4L was a heavily Microsoft/.Net shop, and the new WH4L is primarily a php shop, with MS as an afterthought.
Overall, this transition has been a horrid experience, and I only shudder to think about what it's been like for people with complex, heavily database driven sites.
And from WH4L? Not a peep of an apology, or an offer of, say, a month of free hosting. Not that I give a damn about the money, it's just the gesture would be nice.

We have 8 Contracts, close to 400 subwebs and 56 SQL databases with Webhost4life. Major mistake to trust a single hosting company with all our Internet Business, but they were great until now...........
They have come up with a migration process that is breaking down most websites. This is a major disaster leading lots of small businesses to the edge of the cliff. Very unprofessional crew in total disarray. We are moving fast to other hosting companies before migration is completed and these clowns take us to bankrupcy.

Neither their automated or manual transition process works -- nor does trying to get support to fix it.
MS Sql DBs were not moved, mySQL DBs were changed from InnoDB to MyIsam -- but it made not difference the servers weren't accessible except through their control panel.
I have repeatedly asked to have the
account 'forced' to the new platform if necessary and I would 'fix' it from backups -- never happened after 3 requests
The level 1 support guy was supposed to get me a call from level 2+ -- never happened.
I've been in IT a lot of years, and have done a lot of large project management -- this has all the smell of sheer incompetence; either from the PM or the corporate level not giving the PM what time/resources needed -- doesn't really matter -- any site that's not plain vanilla breaks & the CUSTOMER has to pay in time, lost revenue, and aggravation.
I'm thinking I should just transition my account & my clients to another hosting company -- it probably would be faster -- and if this is an example of the "new team's" level of competence -- it might be safer.

We had little problems with webhost4life until last year. In July 2009 they began to implement changes to "their systems" that had near-devastating marketing effects on us - with NO notification to us as customers.
An example of this was the unannounced "tightening of security" which caused our weekly mass mail to go out advertising an event... with no photograph imbedded. Their tech support minimalized this issue, although they did apologize "for the inconvenience". Clearly they don't understand the marketing impact of sending out emails that look dumb because they refer to pictures that aren't there.
Over the last several months we've regularly lost access to our emails, lost distribution lists, and twice have been locked out from being able to perform website maintenance.
We're moving on to a provider with a bit more marketing savvy and dependability. Too bad, because they were once worth sticking with.
