The service was ok, but in trying to cancel my service I was forced to send 4 emails. For the price (on the high end of average) I'm sure you can do better.

Crappiest Service Ever

SO I called in and told the person that there was a problem with my phpMyAdmin application. I could not see the table names on the right hand side of the screen. There was an error saying there were no tables in the db. The only other problem was it would not preform a backup... Other than that everything was working fine. I could browse my tables and pull my data. First I get an email saying that they could not replicate the issue and that the db was file... He sent text showing all the tables were intact. Then I sent back an email saying that the problem was with the phpMyAdmin and not the DB itself. Anyway I then get an email saying that my db is corrupted and was deleted.
YES, THEY ACTUALLY DELETED THE DATABASE!!!
There are no backups for the last two weeks (One of the reason I openned the ticket). Then after being given the run around for hour and hours I finally have given up.
They have no backup files themselves????
I was going to be running my business from this server. How can I do that now? I have no faith in the company now I will move the whole site before going live... While it is in development I'll just have to make sure I backup every time I stop working for hte night.
I have done support in the past for Banks and other businesses and if I ever just deleted a DB I'm sure I would have been fired on the spot.
Bad Company, I just don't trust them anymore.

Overselling on my server so it's goodbye

Everything was fine until recently and now it's 50/50 if I get on my sites or get a 500 error. This is entirely due to overselling and not as 'customer services' tried to say 'incorrectly set-up sites' - how come they've been running fine for months then?
Your sites are your store front so if customers can't even see them it's bye bye to my customers and Hostgator!

I believe that the hosting overall is good. However, their terms of service only allows 50,000 inodes to be used even though they say they have unlimited domains...

I signed up for HostGator two days ago and I haven't even been able to get my site set up because the connection to the server keeps dropping. Can't upload, download, zip files, unzip files without the connection dying on me. Customer support said the problem must be with my computer... even though when I ssh'd out to another site and then attempted to connect to HostGator I still couldn't do it...

Signed up for domain and hosting and was charged. Ordered bus. cards and graphics for co. vehicle. I was Sent an email several hours later stating domain not available. I had to cancel bus.cards & graphics at steep cancellation fee. I then went thru Yahoo and paid them. Contacted next day by Host Gator and was told that it was a mistake, domain is available and already registered to me. I requested refund as I already signed up with Yahoo with different domain. They are refusing refund on the domain fee and state the other is already back on my corporate card. This is a lie, it is not. The site states 45 day money back satisfaction warranty and a refund the same day if not happy. It has been a week now and I just received an email stating to let them know if I did not see the credit by the end of the month. Of course they state this refund (if and when I get it) will not include the domain fee. I have several emails from them stating that it was completely their fault and they are sorry that I lost money on advertising media, but they refuse to give me a total refund. Stay away from them. Although Yahoo was a little more expensive, they have been great and bill me for only 3-months at a time. They also have unlimited space and bandwidth. I should have known the great price of Host Gator came with a steeper price. I paid $50.00 to cancel my cards and graphics and another $20 to Host Gator. Now I need to take the morning off to go to my bank and get them to do a charge back. Beware.......of Host Gator

Uptime is about the only thing positive I can say about Hostgator. Twice I've upgraded to better servers and both times Hostgator took a week longer than they should have, and both times they screwed up my site on the old server and failed to propertly set up my new server.

Alan *****: The person fixing this problem will know if they fixed it, if they know what they're doing.

Every time we call they claim everything will be fixed in an hour and yet 9 days later, our server is still screwed up. We are now switching to godaddy because we have no other choice. If you have weeks on end to deal with incompetent people, sign up for hostgator.com.
