Signed up for domain and hosting and was charged. Ordered bus. cards and graphics for co. vehicle. I was Sent an email several hours later stating domain not available. I had to cancel bus.cards & graphics at steep cancellation fee. I then went thru Yahoo and paid them. Contacted next day by Host Gator and was told that it was a mistake, domain is available and already registered to me. I requested refund as I already signed up with Yahoo with different domain. They are refusing refund on the domain fee and state the other is already back on my corporate card. This is a lie, it is not. The site states 45 day money back satisfaction warranty and a refund the same day if not happy. It has been a week now and I just received an email stating to let them know if I did not see the credit by the end of the month. Of course they state this refund (if and when I get it) will not include the domain fee. I have several emails from them stating that it was completely their fault and they are sorry that I lost money on advertising media, but they refuse to give me a total refund. Stay away from them. Although Yahoo was a little more expensive, they have been great and bill me for only 3-months at a time. They also have unlimited space and bandwidth. I should have known the great price of Host Gator came with a steeper price. I paid $50.00 to cancel my cards and graphics and another $20 to Host Gator. Now I need to take the morning off to go to my bank and get them to do a charge back. Beware.......of Host Gator

Uptime is about the only thing positive I can say about Hostgator. Twice I've upgraded to better servers and both times Hostgator took a week longer than they should have, and both times they screwed up my site on the old server and failed to propertly set up my new server.

Alan *****: The person fixing this problem will know if they fixed it, if they know what they're doing.
Alan *****: Asking me to try again, means they don't know how to fix it

Alan *****: Guess not
Every time we call they claim everything will be fixed in an hour and yet 9 days later, our server is still screwed up. We are now switching to godaddy because we have no other choice. If you have weeks on end to deal with incompetent people, sign up for hostgator.com.

Support is really awful. They are not trained or skilled to deal with technical support. They used to be very reliable hosting, excellent uptime for about nine months. However starting end of Feb 2008 they did some overnight server maintenance and everyone started having problems ever since then. I am contacting support on a daily basis, sites are always down, FTP and email down, customers complaining and HG tell me it's my ISP. So I have several third party site monitoring services put in place and another logging issues from another country and despite all these showing the server down frequently, HG won't acknowledge the problem, least of all resolve it. And they don't accept third party logs and they won't monitor themselves to look for issues. And unfortunately I'm not going to pay for reseller hosting for sites only HG can see. Three weeks and no resolution, I'm moving on.
They used to be really good, hence all the top hosting reviews, however, don't waste your time now. Customer and service and support has always been below average though.

Having unlimited domains adds tremendous value to the product. Some host provides allow sub-domains, but you will see them written as www.subdomain.maindomain.com. In Gator each you just type in www.subdomain.com.
I added 5 sites all running at nice speed.
With unlimited domains the cost is really excellent.
Tech support was helpful and initally a little lacking in helping me get my SSL paths straightened in my order forms. They saw I new enough that they went ahead and helped with the scripting, which led to a fairly quick successful install of my SSL order forms.
Chat live was with little or no waiting a few times. Phone support was very fast.

Earlier in the week, my site was the victim of an attack, causing others hosted on my shared server to suffer. My site was taken offline, but, here's the good part. HostGator actually phoned me to let me know what had happened and discussed options to fix it.
My previous host simply would disable the site and not email, phone, nothing.
In addition, any other request for support or simple questions are always answered very promptly.

I was a little skeptical about using a hosting provider so... well, so cheap. I'd been used to paying about $25 - $35 / month for my hosting. However, HostGator has proven to be quite stable, offers a host of features that many of my local providers can't match, and have excellent support staff who have always managed to help me out with any problems. Great service in comparison to the couple dozen or so providers I have dealt with since I first started creating websites about 15 years ago.
I have no desire to be a reseller, but I have been recommending HostGator to my clients. Everyone who has moved to them has been pleased so far. The only issue I have run into on a regular basis is the port number for the SMTP servers is often set at 26 (rather than 25, which is the default in most email software). Once I figured that one out, things have gone quite smoothly.

Access is no problem, but the after sale support is very poor. I agree with other reviews that SPAM from their servers is a huge problem. Yahoo has gray-listed such that ALL hostgator originated email goes to my SPAM box. Prevents or complicates forwarding emails. I also needed to use Front Page extensions and couldn't get them to load. Got support fairly quickly, but the feature is still not working correctly. So now what do I do?... I want to add another domain to the site, but am not comfortable doing that.
