Getting any slightly complicated technical problem solved is like pulling teeth. Reverse DNS is so screwed up, our clients have problems signing up for things that require a return email verification. For instance, all email to Craigslist gets bounced back as many other similar sites.

Also, their Fantasco panel is outdated by several years. For instance, they offer Joomla version 1.0.12. The standard for the last few years has been 1.0.15. I emailed them and asked when they'll upgrade, and if they will actually upgrade to 1.5. The reply I received was that they have no control over what Fantastico implements. FUnny, hostgator offers both 1.0.15 and 1.5 (sorry not a plug for them).

Very dissappointed with quality of service and reliability of the system.

No matter how attractive their prices are, their customer support has deteriorated in the past couple of years.

Their Live support only opens tickets, they never really helped us "Live". Their tickets get answered only the next day. Usually the answer is an unhelpful one liner and you have to exchange a few e-mails before they really look at an issue. Every time, a new person replies to your e-mail, so it makes you wonder if they are just passing the buck and noone really wants to start looking at the problem.

Their other departments (sales, billing) are also very unhelpful. They make you feel as if they pay for each letter they type out of their pocket, or as if their hands are so arthritic that it hurts to type more than a few words.

So, overall, I would NOT recommend HostForWeb until they have significantly improved their customer support / sales / billing and other departments. I do hope they will see this and act on this, as we're still with them and hope they will improve.

I have used several hosts over the years and Host For Web is by far the best. My uptime average for the last year and a half has been 99.984% and the very few problems I have had were taken care of immediately, they have the BEST customer service of anyone I've ever dealt with on the web. I highly recommend Host For Web.

Never had a problem service cost and support has always been excellent with both shared hosting and dedicated server I was involved with.

I had my website hosted by hostforeweb for over 4 years and saw their service drop form stellar to absolutely horrible, forcing me to seek out a new hosting company.

I don't know where to begin with how disappointed I was with them.

Their mailervers went down almost every two weeks until I finally hired a third party to handle my mailing lists.

When I had problems, their tech support was so incompetent that I often would have to ask the tech support for my message boards look into the hostforweb problems to tell me how to tell HFW tech support how to fix it.

Once, they suspended my account without prior notice and accused me of using the website to spread spam. I had to instruct tech support on how to read the header of the offending email to show that it was spoofed and not from my website.

The first time their server hosting our site was hacked it was through, according to their own words, "An old and well known bug in Cpanel". When I asked them why this "old and well known" security problem hadn't been patched or updated they told me to "ask the Cpanel developers". So you see, the fact that they are funning outdated and unpatched versions of cpanel, it's the developers of Cpanel's fault.

The final straw that made me find a new host was the last time their server hosting my site was hacked. Again, a script kiddie exploited a security loophole in the outdated and unpatched version of apache they were running. The difference this time was that after I alerted them to the fact that my users were being attacked a trojan virus it took ten days (9 of which I was unable to upload any files)before they would even acknowledge that the server had been compromised. When they finally did see the problem, they accused me of being responsible and suspended my account until I fixed the problem. Luckily, my new webhost was ready to roll just a few hours later. No problems since I changed hosts.

On a final note: I started with a 10 dollar a month account. Even though I wasn't using the maximum resources allotted to my account, they claimed that I needed to upgrade to a Virtual Private Server. I barely used the resources on the VPS and continued to have problems. Again, they suggested a dedicated server. I was paying $169 a month for worse service than I have now at my new host for $20 dollars a month.

In short, Hostforweb is the worst webhost I could ever imagine. In 2003, they were the best.

I've been with Host For Web for just about 3 years. I own a web development company and we currently have about 50 - 60 domains hosted on varies VPS accounts.

There customer service is always nice and quick (within 15 minutes). All the staff know there stuff back to front and inside out!

I have had a few CPU load issues, but to be fair to HFW, this is because I haven't got a bigger enough VPS account.

They are so good, that I'd be hesitant to try any of the other hosting companies know matter what they were offering.

The only major outage I can remember was when there was a fire in Chicago and even then we were only down for a few hours.

I have been with them for more than a year and I have had it with this company. Their support is absolutely terrible. They never seem to read their emails completely so one has to go back and forth with them constantly. For their so called live online support you have to sit in front of the comuter and look at the monitor to see if anyone will bother to respond. I am sure they are very busy with people contacting them all the time but that is not a good sign, it shows how poorly they operate. I am so fed up with them that I am going to take my sites soewhere else.

I own a web site design company and I've been using HostForWeb to host our customers' sites. So far I have more than 20 sites hosted with them.

Uptime has been pretty good, fast servers, excellent support. Great value for the money.

I've been with HostForweb for 2 years and had no problems with them so far. Great uptime and a lot of features available. For the few times I had to contact customer support, they replied fast and accurately.
