Go Daddy is a SCAM! They automatically set you up for a recurring charge and when I had found such an unsolicited charge on my bank statement, I called their customer service dept. The agent could not tell me what it was for, so I had my bank refuse the charge. Then, without warning or explanation, Go Daddy blocked my website because they had the domain, and told me I had to pay a FIFTY DOLLAR ($50!) charge to get the site back!!!! I spoke to Dustin in "Team Magenta" who just defended their policy and offered nothing to me.

I work as a freelance designer (which also means I play pitch-hitter for tech support), and I always have clients that insist on using GoDaddy. My guess is they saw their super bowl ad at some point, and are attracted to the price.
I often try to remind them that you get what you pay for, and GoDaddy is the cheapest guy on the block.
I used them once for myself, and that lasted about 2 months. However, I am forced to use them almost every day for my clients.
Domain parking issues. FTP issues (too many simultaneous connections? Are you kidding me?) Email issues. Oh god, the email issues.
And of course, their stock response: "it's your fault."
I have to say, if you rely on your website or email in any sense, steer 100% clear of Godaddy. Yeah, they're cheap, but what good is a webhost that doesn't work, and won't help you when you have an issue?

I have been hosting with GoDaddy.com for a very long time now and their service in recent months has gone from bad to worse. Recently I have been trying to update software on my server and it has taken them three days and I still can't get them to update my PHP to 5.1. This install takes about 8 minutes to complete and according to them should be completed in less than 24 hours. 72 hours and running now and over 3 hours of long distance calls and I am not one bit closer to having a functional site. I will be moving all my pages from GoDaddy soon!!

I have used Godaddy for years now
without problems.
I have read the reviews above and see that the negative reviews, mostly, could have been solved by using Gmail.com email.
I direct all my email through Gmail. Gmail stores all my mail (I get about 200 daily).
So I can look up any email ever received or sent.
I currently have 41 Domains with GoDaddy and am pleased.
I hope I never have to use their support. But I have had issues with 1and1, Ipower, and others. Very difficult user interfaces.

I have used GoDaddy as a registrar practically since they appeared. I have recommended that all my clients own their own domain names, and that they register them with GoDaddy.
There isn't a lot that a domain registrar should be able to do wrong; and you really aren't getting much of anything from a registrar either.
But when things go awry, you find how damaging obstructive registrars can be.
It was the worst kinds of experiences with Network Solutions which compelled moving to GoDaddy, but I now have a case that just beats all for stubbornness, incompetence, and just plain outright, "I don't give a damn about you 'service.'"
As I always recommend that clients own their own domains, this does require that they maintain their account information. But we all know that data can be lost. Many clients using Windows for instance will maintain the emails they receive from a registrar as their means of retrieving account information.
But should a hard drive go down or a system be upgraded, how many "technicians" do you know who bring all their mail rules and data (records/mails) forward from the previous drive or system?
Very few.
So the next thing you know, just for upgrading a system or suffering destruction under a new Vista system... things which are not at all a client's fault, they lose their data.
Now, would you ever think they should never be able to restore access to their domain again?
Well, this appears to be the case at GoDaddy. I have about $1,500 worth of time trying to restore a customer's access to their GoDaddy account; and I have never seen such incompetence and beligerance anywhere.
I have literally hours on the phone with them over several days; I have been hung up on by support personnel twice -- who just couldn't handle being explained to yet again that the recourse they were recommending only led to the same dead end again and again for which the present call was made.
We have faxed business documents and ID. They have lost it; they have claimed that a former employee actually owns the account -- while their very own emails state quite the contrary, that my customer's business is the legal owner of the domain.
Their internet presence has been down now for days; and of course they have no email through their domain (which OF COURSE, WAS THEIR PRINCIPAL EMAIL).
This has been such a ridiculous fiasco I still can't believe it. I'm utterly outright flabergastedly astonished.
Oh, right... you might say, well it's my client's fault.
Well here's the deal: I had to move a mess of clients to a new server -- a different host. ALL OF THEM had lost their account access information.
Yep. "Just happens."
So, guess what?
ALL THE REST, were on Network Solutions; and their software allowed me as a technical contact to make the necessary DNS changes.
ONLY GODADDY is irresponsive; ONLY GODADDY CONTINUES TO OBSTRUCT MY CLIENT'S USE OF *****MY CLIENT'S***** DOMAIN!
Yep, I've written Bob Parsons already and the whole works. If the GoDaddy crew worked for me, they'd all be down the road already.
TWO PEOPLE HAVE BEEN FIGHTING THIS BATTLE FOR DAYS WITH THEM... AND WE'RE NOWHERE *YET*.
THIS IS PATHETIC. IT'S ABUSIVE. IT'S NEGLIGENT. IT'S JUST ABOUT IMPOSSIBLE EVEN TO BELIEVE.
AND IT'S A GOOD THING THEY'RE PLENTY FAR AWAY RIGHT NOW.
I DON'T GET PEEVED OFTEN; BUT MY BLOOD PRESSURE IS ABOUT 500,000 RIGHT NOW -- AND I DON'T EVEN SEE HOW I HAVE A SHOT AT GETTING THESE PEOPLE BACK THEIR DOMAIN.
NOT A SHOT.

I have been using hosting services for almost 3 years now. I spent over a month trying to find a web host provider, tried 2 out - 1and1 and ixhosting. I ended up at Godaddy and really liked the convenience of their control panel and ease of use.
As I added more sites to my portfolio - I wanted to update to a bigger plan - I researched and ended up at Godaddy and got a Virtual Server - now I have a Dedicated Server and use Godaddy - but what I actually have is a reseller account with Wild West Domains so that I get a steeper discount since I own hundreds of domains.
I even tried Hostgator but because I ran a couple of scripts that caused the web server service to stop, but the service at Hostgator was awful. So, I stuck with Godaddy and will stay with them.

GoDaddy definately gives you bang for the buck. Pray you don't hit an issue though... there customer support is horrible.
I continually have email issues becuase you are forced to use their SMTP Relay Server - which inexplicably holds emails for hours and even drops them on occasion.
On these type issues you can never get anyone useful on the phone. Their real experts are 2nd level and only answer email. Given the average response time to an email is 10+ hours it takes DAYS to weed out a complicated issue via email with them.
If you have a serious business, I would not recommend them.

I just wanted to register my domain name but decided to go with another website host. Go-daddy's advertisements are on my page and I cannot get it off. I registered my new host server 2 days ago and the damn 'godaddy' advertisments are STILL there.
I called there-(of course the loser company doesn't have an 800 number and it's really hard to find the email link to email them about the problem) the people working there have NO clue as to what they're doing. I would not recommend this company to ANYONE. Do your research!

godaddy does a competent job with domain registration and holding.
however, their windows hosting is poor and technical assistance, while friendly, is incompetent.
specifically, i recently had an asp.net 2.0 app refuse to compile on their iis server. it complained of being unable to find a resource and threw an exception.
after some experiments, i came to the conclusion the godaddy messed something up. to verify this, i successfully ran the very same sources on lunar pages and easy cgi hosts, as well as my visual studion local host.
after pointing this out to godaddy, they still gave me their stock answer: it's your fault.
godaddy must have some competent techies somewhere, but i've never talked to one of them.
anyway, i'm out of there. my new site is a commercial site and i can't afford to deal with that kind of nonsense.
