As many will tell you, the process to cancel a package is painful and confusing. If it's not done correctly, you are not canceled. If you cancel but didn't get the email to complete cancellation (my case) they will "un-cancel" your package, even after giving confirmation codes for each domain.
1and1.com will then renew your domains BEFORE taking money, letting them send you to collections because they cannot take the domains back.
Until their policy is changed, AVOID AT ALL COST.
