I have only had them for 1 1/2 months and I have had nothing but problems with them. The reps have no clue about computers or web themselves and they can hardly even speak English! I have been experiencing FTP issues where it will work and then just disconnect after a short time (20 mins or so) and then it will not let me reconnect for hours! If I can't FTP, I can't build me webpage. Then when they setup my clik n build app they set it up with THEIR admin privileges and I couldn't change ANY permissions. When I called them they said that it was a known problem (the permissions) and that their (lowsy) technicians were working on it. I told them to reverse the install. I installed the same (Joomla) application myself and everything (permissions) worked fine. I called to tell them the solution and they didnt want to hear it. They kept asking me if I had a PROBLEM?? What the heck?! You don't want to be embarassed by a regular joe who knows more about your darned product than you do?! These guys are the worst! I can't believe this! I have gotten twice the amount of support from Joomla than from 1and1 and I'm not even paying Joomla!

For the price I paid (which I got on sale), the service wasn't too bad. Nice layouts but their navigation and control panel system is cumbersome and somewhat slow. I wish they had a more intuitive layout. Uptime has been okay, I've experienced some downtime, a little more than my host prior to 1&1. Technical support answered my emails usually within a day, or a few minutes. I don't have anything bad to say, but at the same time I'm not impressed enough to stick with them. Their control panel is too beefy and slow for my taste. I think if 1&1 cut through the clutter it would be less of a drag.

I was originally drawn to this firm by their recommendation from a respected friend. Since setting up an account, I experienced a series of problems that Technical Support could not resolve;
- Loosing Email
I subscribe to various email lists and archive the content, posting it for others as reference material. The EmailListServer immediately flags account errors to the list admin. No errors occurred but my inbound emails just stopped arriving. I opened a complaint on 20070605 with Tech Support and furnished everything they needed to isolate the problem. They said they would escalate the issue to the “Admins” and they would be in touch.
- No response to open Technical Support requests
After 30 days with no follow-up from the “Admins”, I contacted Technical Support, worked through their outsourced Level 1 support staff. I find out Technical Support cannot even contact the “Admins” because “Tech Support is in the Philippines and Admins are in Virginia or Germany, I’m not really sure.” The Tech Support supervisor arranged a billing deferral while the issue was resolved.
- Internal policies not followed
30 days more transpired (still no contact from Tech Support or the Admins) and I received a Billing notice that the account will be suspended for non-payment. What the heck, I have a billing deferral! I write to complaints@1and1.com to inform them of the situation. I got a response from Technical Support asking to tell them about the problem I opened the ticket for in the first place. Huh, you lost the open ticket and all the related documentation that lead to the billing deferral? I responded that they already had the required data and they acknowledged the problem existed. All of a sudden, the responses halted, leading to,
- Account Suspension
With no activity on the tech issues, I finally cave in and figure I'll just switch to another hosting service when the committed-to one year contract expires. I enter my revised billing info and find the account is now locked out.

I am sure this saga will continue but you are smart enough to learn from my mistakes. If you are even thinking about 1 & 1 hosting, just go elsewhere.

This company is a great hosting company. I have had experience with multiple hosting companies and none have compared with 1and1. Their control panel is outstanding. It is very easy to use. Have not had a problem with them and have been with them for almost a year. I have my customers (I am a Sys. Admin) websites on this as well as my personal site. It has been a very satisfactory experience.

You are covered folks and don't be threatened by their cowboy collection agents either. I cancelled my contract with them ages ago because there was more down time than up and the servers were slowwwwwwwwwwww!

They kept the site open after cancellation that is there problem not mine and if they cannot be bothered to respond to emails through sheer laziness that is their problem and not mine.

1&1 are taking money with menace and that is all that they are doing.

You are covered by The Sales Of Goods Act in the UK and you are not forced to put up with a shoddy service.

I am with 1and1 for over a year. I cannot understand all those complaints? The service is extremely realiable.

I used other companies before but 1and1 is by far the best. The server hardly goes down. The control panels are nicely structured and easy to understand. There are of tons of customization options.

No problems at all...

I have a personal-use, low-volume site mainly used for experimenting with various LAMP applications for academic and potential enterprise use. The only problem I have ever had has been occasional delays in email processing (POP access from our email clients). Since I am not a business, this has not been critical. I would not make a commercial enterprise dependent on this level of service. General downtime has been virtually nil — outstanding reliability. Customer and technical support have always been surprisingly good for a plan that costs $9.95 per month. Regarding canceling services, I recently canceled a domain registration using 1and1's online tools. It was not difficult. I received a confirmation, which I kept for billing validation purposes. Even for a $5 or $10 plan, some level of user competence is necessary. You must be able to read step-by-step instructions, apply them, and — if calling for help is necessary, be able to frame your issue in clear language and follow along as a technician guides you through a solution. This is standard for the use of any technology. If you are not comfortable operating with web-based guidance and form-based tools, you need to have someone else manage your web presence.
I have no interest in 1and1, other than as a customer. If 1and1 is going downhill, I will soon become aware of it. For now, and the past three plus years, 1and1's service has been incredibly good for the cost. If you've ever had a truly terrible host (and I have), you will recognize the 1and1 is actually pretty darn good.

Do not even consider.WORST - CANNOT CANCEL WHEN YOU WANT DUE TO SOME CLAUSE.
After a year with them I canceled my service at a month prior to renewal time . I had to use their automated cancelation route because they would not do it during the phone call.Now I see why they are waiting for you to make a mistake on the frustrating form so they can continue to charge you for something you did not fill out correctly.I am be charge for a extra month for not checking the proper box.I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE TO ANYONE. STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE.Let me go take a couple more tylenol my head is killing me.

They have a complaints department, would suggest you take notice!! Worst hosting company ever had, I have been through 4 in the past 5 years. Don't make the same mistake I make, take your business elsewhere.
