I have never had a worse experience with a company prior to 1and1. They suck you into their contract, and even after cancellation continue to bill you. I canceled my account, and over three months later I received a debtor letter in the mail stating I owed them a large sum of money. Do not bother using 1and1, they will screw you over in the end.

HORRIBLE, DEPLORABLE, REALLY SHITTY Customer Service

All of my sites got locked due to some issued with cards expiring and what not. I called to get assistance and wanted to know when my site was really locked because I wanted to know which business emails did not go out in time and which business emails I did not receive; however, since it was a Saturday, they were unable to answer my question.
The tech guy first said he could not provide any information regarding the freeze because I would have to talk to the billing department once Monday rolled around. I could not wait that long to get answers so after 3 minutes of constantly talking, the tech came back and told me that my account was frozen on Nov 5. I told him that that date was wrong because I've been able to access my sites and can prove it via google analytics. However, he just kept repeating the answer and could not provide me with any more information. I asked to talk to an admin or his supervisor. No dice.
At the earliest chance, I'll be switching to another company because they have HORRIBLE DEPLORABLE customer service.

My experience with 1 & 1 Internet has been terrible at best. I purchased a domain name for $4.99 under a promotion, they charged me $4.99 for the domain, and then attempted to take another $8.99 (the regular price) from my card, which was declined. Today, I received a debt collection notice, 2 actually, one for $8.99 (Which I was never meant to owe) and $14.95 (Although online it says $18.95 for late fees, where I was never late) They also want me to provide my own stamp to respond to their notices. Keep away from them, you will have a hard time canceling, getting any promotional offers you applied for, and more.

The package deal was misleading and I got overcharged. I ve tried to cancel. I'm still in the process of trying to cancel. I'm hoping to avoid collections which so many others have reported was their experience!

Horrible, awful, stay away at all costs!

I HOPE I don't have the billing problems that other reviewers have had because I'll freaking flip if I do. They don't give accurate information about their software's capability before you sign up, their templates are 10 years outdated, their customer service is outsourced, they have you jump through hoops to change anything. I'm in the middle of changing my hosting and I'm having to go through ridiculous, unnecessary steps to change my DNS. Meanwhile I'm losing business and losing money! 1and1 SUCKS. Do not use them!! There are far superior sites out there that will give you a lot more freedom with the site that YOU pay for!

As many will tell you, the process to cancel a package is painful and confusing. If it's not done correctly, you are not canceled. If you cancel but didn't get the email to complete cancellation (my case) they will "un-cancel" your package, even after giving confirmation codes for each domain.
1and1.com will then renew your domains BEFORE taking money, letting them send you to collections because they cannot take the domains back.
Until their policy is changed, AVOID AT ALL COST.

I've had two sites hosted by 1&1 for the last four years...one of them I check multiple times of the day and night. I have ~never~ had a problem with my sites being down. Tech support has responded by email within hours, resolving my questions (which were due to misunderstanding on my part, not something broken).
I honestly don't know what kind of problems others are having - either I'm the luckiest sod in the universe, or there's some perpetually disgruntled people in the web world...

I have been very pleased with the service, uptime, and value of 1and1.com. Responses to emails are prompt, and telephone service has been very good when needed.
Occasionally there have been glitches, but they have always been short-lived and corrected promptly. I continue to recommend 1and1.com to friends, family, and colleagues.
There seem to be a lot of negative comments about them on the web... but read them carefully. Mostly from whiners and complainers who expect something for nothing, or who have complaints about other hosts too.
1and1.com is not perfect. But they offer great value and solid, reliable, service.

I decided to let my web site expire. I thought by not paying the fee they would cancel my site and we'd all be happy. Not so, cancelling service with 1 and 1 was convoluted at best -- downright difficult. I was fairly pleased with 1 and 1, but the cancellation ordeal left me quite bitter. They charged me even though the site was taken down. Good luck talking to a person about business issues. I will not use 1 and 1 again.

1and1 is the worst hosting service I have ever had the displeasure to work with. We have several hosting accounts across the Internet primarily due to the fact that 1and1 can't seem to keep their servers up. Over the last year they have been down for more than a week three separate times. We asked for a credit which amounted to a few dollars but never saw it. We joined their affiliate program three years ago and, regretfully, referred a number of people to their service but never saw a penny from their affiliate program. Needless to say we don't recommend anyone anymore.
We have attempted to cancel domains to no avail as their system is designed to be so full of required processes that the cancellation never gets completed and as such you end up being charged for a domain you thought was canceled.
If your looking for an affordable hosting service you would be far better off paying a couple extra dollars and be sure the company you choose has a good customer service department located in the US or Canada. 1and1 has their customer service in India and their personnel haven't got a clue except how to say "We apologize for that but..."
