I've put up with occaisonal outages and fair customer support for years. Things have been steadily getting worse over the last several months, but this is now over the top. As of 11/30/2006 my site was "replaced" by another site. When I tried to FTP my site the passwords had changed. When I went to www.1dollarhosting.com, their site was also "replaced" - very strange stuff going on here. I cannot even get to their contact information or support page! I just moved to ICDsoft.com, which gets good reviews here (cannot help but be much better than 1dollarhosting.com). STAY AWAY - for the timebeing you really don't have to worry about even accidentally signing up for this because their home site is messed up!

I was a customer of 1dollarhosting for about 5 years. On numerous occasions, my site was unreachable or slow.
For the last few months I was not able to login to update my site, and only after calling them did I discover that I was locked out for using too much space. They claimed that I owed overage charges for the year and threatened to send it to a collection agency. During the year, I never received any email or notice that I was using up too much space. I also never received email about any of my support requests.
The customer service rep (John Day) was very rude and condescending over the phone. I submitted my cancellation request today (and again, no email confirmation).
Stay away from this company.

We were hosted by this company since 2000 - never needed to worry about service because it was a pretty static site.
But when we decided to transfer the site to Yahoo! to make it easier for us to use, all hell broke loose - Phil Shapiro removed our names and contact info from our domain name WHOIS, efectively taking over ownership of our domain name; he locked us out of access from our site; he put a redirect on it to an obscene site; he called us over the phone and made threats against us - there are other people who've contacted me regrading the owner of 1dollarhosting (Phil Shapiro) about paypal accounts being opened up on eBay using their CC#s with delivery addresses to Tarzana -
This company is UNETHICAL and operates in BAD FAITH.
If you don't have problems, count your lucky stars.
This company is SHADY.

I really don't see what the fuss is. I've been with 1dollarhosting for several years. My experience is that Phil Shapiro (the CEO) will personally answer emails (though it may take a couple of days). Although the site advertises only email support - whenever I've called, I've most always talked to someone who has helped. Someday I might decide to switch hosting companies because of certain requirements I might have in the future but not because I felt ripped-off. For now I'm staying with them. In fact, since my last post I give them a higher rating now. I still say it's simply very hard to beat hosting for $1/mo!!

The worst domain experience ever

This company refused to allow a transfer on a number of occasions, did not respond to phone calls, e-mails, etc. etc.
After complaining to the California Attorney General, Federal Trade Commission, etc. etc. we mysteriously received this link, which seemed to work:

We'll see if they allow the subsequent transfer of our domain.
It is a company to avoid!

The worst hosting experience of my life. Their customer service is abismal in the extreme. Setting up my hosting with 1dollarhosting has been the worst computer decision of my life. If you want hassle, abuse and no support of any description then 1dollarhosting is the company to go with. I am currently in the process of moving.

In the beginning, uptime was decent but when there was an outage, their "technical support" was a joke. Taking 3 days on average to answer a question is unacceptable support. Now, they have disabled my accounts because someone there *thinks* I owe them money. I have emailed and faxed receipts that the CEO(Phil Shapiro) sent me, proving that I do not owe money. "Steph", the person in charge of "customer service" acknowledges that my accoun t is clear, however I cannot get "tech support" to turn my accounts back on. I gave up and decided to move my site to another host. but wait, they have also put a registrar lock on my domain and changed the technical contact info to "Phil Shapiro"...basically claiming ownership of the domain. I am unable to get anyone to answer questions or unlock it so now my domain is dead. They went so far as to send me a form to fill out to cancel which included(and required) a current credit card number and paragraph that stated that if I dispute the charges with my CC company, they have to right to charge me an additional $150.
These guys are crooks...plain and simple...STAY AWAY!!!

I've had 1dollarhosting.com as the host of my website (www.myENTdoctor.com). I started using them becuase they were CHEAP and I did not want to spend a lot for my initial web presence... and 6 years later I still use them! It is not as reliable as others but it's still above 99% uptime. Also, space is limited to 20megs, but for a small site with a few pages you simply cannot beat $1/month.

They started out fine, but then their reliability went down, their customer service became a joke, and Mr. Shapiro figured that instead of trying to keep customers, he could make more by chasing customers away and then charging a $150 'deactivation' fee! The man should be arrested for fraud.

Found out after a year that I hadn't actually cancelled the account like I thought (because of horrible service) and was threatened with collection if I didn't pay up with a valid CC number. They didn't inform me until a couple days after the yearly anniversary so they wouldn't let me cancel. I paid the money and now they won't give me my long-forgotten username and password to access their servers. I've been waiting over a month with numerous phone calls and emails.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AT ALL!
