to this review here I've had two sites hosted by 1&1 for the last four years...one of them I check multiple times of the day and night. I have ~never~ had a problem with my sites being down. Tech support has responded by email within hours, resolving my questions (which were due to misunderstanding on my part, not something broken).
I honestly don't know what kind of problems others are having - either I'm the luckiest sod in the universe, or there's some perpetually disgruntled people in the web world...
