I can't imagine how this company manages to stay in business. They billed me for services never offered, and then for collections. Had the bill been a bit larger, I would have sued, but it's one of those "pay it through gritted teeth," things so that it didn't kill your credit rating. Whatever you do, don't give them your credit card information or your banking information. To be clear: they charged my card for something *without* my permission, then claimed their TOS allowed them to do so.

Their email was practically useless when I signed up, I had to get an other host for my email needs.

Their online tech support really sucks. That's if you get an answer. It has been 5 days since my most recent inquiry and I have yet to get a response.

I am using them for more then a year. I am renting two dedicated Linux servers from them.
I like it so far. No any issues at all. Plenty bandwidth, stable latency, lots of features, can setup own firewall rules, backup for whole HDD. I am missing only Gentoo distribution for preinstall.

MS Developer pack? Not at all, you don't have access of the .NET at all. 24 hrs 7 days support (hahahahaha) Everytime I had to call them (pay international phone rates) stay on-hold for over 40 minutes, didn't get solution.

Tech support has been farmed out to clueless Indians. Took them 3 weeks to set up a server, and it was not done correctly. Still waiting for tech support to fix it.

For the last few months I have noticed that their email service has been running very slowly... emails regularly take 40+ minutes, and sometimes even up to 6+ hours to be delivered!

Their technical support people seem totally uninterested... it seems that they have been outsourced to the Philippines some can barely speak English. Emails to their support people also go unanswered for days... perhaps they are getting delayed on the mail servers too!!! (Yes, sarcasam is the lowest form of wit!)

I have been a satisfied customer for several years, but will now have to switch to another hosting company. It seems that 1and1 have totally forgotten about customer service in their rush to cut costs.

I read a lot of reviews about 1and1's great uptime...I don't get it! That is NOT my experience.

I have been hosting with 1and1.com for 9 months now and several months ago I noticed the my site was unavailable for short periods in the middle of the day. I became conserned and started monitoring my URL. The first month I monitored 1and1.com posted 97% uptime. What makes that figure even worse is that I am only polling my URL every 30 minutes.

I sent many emails on the subject and they told me that I was wrong and that the problem must be on my end. I know this is not the case because I get complaints about my site being unavailable from people all over the world. What's more, I work for an online database provider...if we are down there is big trouble.

Polling every 30 minutes 1and1.com posted an unimpressive 97.859% uptime with 75 recorded outages between August 11, 2005 and December 31, 2005. I wonder what these numbers would look like if I were polling every 5 minutes?

I have not ever had an issue technical or billing. They are much more simple to use than other hosting services. But with anything you have to have some level of understanding of how to create a web site. Basic bookkeeping is also helpful, I am warned they will be charging me, I get invoices, and I makesure there is money in the account. I have other clients on it and never a problem sure there are limits but it is shared hosting and there should be. I do get tired of the scripted Indian, scripted customer service but that is with everything these days.
