1Dollarhosting : 1Dollarhosting Reviews : Crooks They Are

In the beginning, uptime was decent but when there was an outage, their "technical support" was a joke. Taking 3 days on average to answer a question is unacceptable support. Now, they have disabled my accounts because someone there *thinks* I owe them money. I have emailed and faxed receipts that the CEO(Phil Shapiro) sent me, proving that I do not owe money. "Steph", the person in charge of "customer service" acknowledges that my accoun t is clear, however I cannot get "tech support" to turn my accounts back on. I gave up and decided to move my site to another host. but wait, they have also put a registrar lock on my domain and changed the technical contact info to "Phil Shapiro"...basically claiming ownership of the domain. I am unable to get anyone to answer questions or unlock it so now my domain is dead. They went so far as to send me a form to fill out to cancel which included(and required) a current credit card number and paragraph that stated that if I dispute the charges with my CC company, they have to right to charge me an additional $150.

These guys are crooks...plain and simple...STAY AWAY!!!

This guys made all kinds of promises. I gave a 2000.00 deposit on a website and he cashed a=it and never did the work. I hired someone else to do the work and he highjacked the website and sent it to a pornography site.

Small claims is small fry to this guy! You can see from these complaints and hundreds of others that he needs to be investigated.

Had a similar experience with Webcountry/1dollarhosting.com where they sent me to collection a year after I cancelled my account. No bill, invoice, or communication until I get a call from a collection agency. Total fraud.

The "terms and conditions" on 1dollarhosting.com say that they can be changed at any time. That statement alone makes them unenforceable. On April 15, 2009, a Texas federal district court held that an arbitration provision in Blockbuster’s online terms of service was “illusory” and unenforceable because Blockbuster had reserved the right to change the terms of service at any time. Harris v. Blockbuster Inc., No. 3:09-cv-217-M (N.D. Tex. April 15, 2009). I also found another case that says a company cannot change "terms of service" without notification. Douglas v. Talk America No. 06-75424 (July 18, 2007), service providers should not be able to change their terms of service arbitrarily without notifying their registered users, according to the judges in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Webcountry is "Suspended" according to the California Secretary of State's website (http://kepler.sos.ca.gov/cbs.aspx). That means that Webcountry's business entity's powers, rights and privileges were suspended in California. If you were to sue Webcountry, they cannot legally defend themselves. Also, any contracts that you have with a "Suspended" company like Webcountry can be voided.

If you end up being sued by a collection agency (Webcountry cannot legally sue you because of their "Suspended" status), it's really an easy win and you shouldn't worry much at all. It really comes down to Webcountry acting in "bad faith" and judges hate any party acting in such a manner. Use the information provided above. Also, do make sure you do all communication with a collection agency by certified mail and keep records of everything. Tell the collection agency that "I dispute the debt, please validate." The onus is on them to PROVE that you are contractually obligated to pay the debt, which of course they will not be able to do. Read the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) because if a collection agency violates them, you can sue (~$1000 per infraction). You can do that on your own or find an attorney at http://www.naca.net/.

DO NOT BE AFRAID OF WEBCOUNTRY/1DOLLARHOSTING.COM/PHIL SHAPIRO/COLLECTION AGENCY!!!!! Consumer protections are in place, just make sure you use them!
