Having a dedicated server gives you high flexibility and a lot of options for your site. Usually you have root/admin access to the server and you can manage and modify each aspect of the server behavior - software running, configuration, etc. So if your site needs more than any shared hosting plan can offer or if you have some special requirements - the dedicated server is the right choice for you. When you are on a dedicated server - your site is the only one that uses the server resources. Also when on a dedicated server you have no restrictions on the number of websites that you can host, on the number of mailboxes. The whole CPU and memory is on your disposal. You can install whatever programs and software that you wish.

Most companies rent dedicated servers for a monthly fee. The fee includes certain amount of bandwidth and one or more dedicated IP addresses. Additional bandwidth usually costs less compared to a sharing hosting plan.

The greatest disadvantage of a dedicated server is its price. It is significantly higher compared to shared hosting plans. Another thing is that while on a shared hosting plan, the webhost staff takes care of the server upgrades, security, hacker attacks, etc. On a dedicated server these tasks in most of the cases are your own responsibility. So you need to be familiar with system administration before going for a dedicated or at least hire a sysadmin to take care of your server.

There are a lot of companies that offer the so called "Managed dedicated" servers. With these packages most of the regular maintenance and system administration tasks are carried on by the company itself. You need to check the company offerings for full list of features and specs included in their dedicated server deal.

Some dedicated servers come along with a lot of software installed. This includes regular features as email, database server, web server, etc as well as some management software(Control panel - Cpanel, Plesk, Exim) with web interface for managing different aspects of the server - configuring websites, creating mailboxes, ftp user, etc.

When do I need a dedicated server? There is no simple answer to that. In general you may need a dedicated server in any of the following cases:

Well! There’s no doubt that dedicated servers have much importance in today’s web hosting world. I would say it really depends on your website requirement that you should select a dedicated server only if your website needs a keen resource (more web-space, high performance servers) and due to the highly website traffic.

Never get one from godaddy.com or wildwestdomains.com! worst customer service i ever had, plus they sold 40 of our domains and we were on a dedicated server. it was all explained on http://www.badspace.com!

I like the idea of a dedicated server for each website. Even half an hour of a down time can ruin the reputation of a tech website.

I have this problem for one of my template sites (wptemplates.net) is running on a shared server. Today, my hosting company put a temporary block on it because it is using too much of the CPU resources. (some spammers decide to send a lot of spam comments to my demo blog). I am planning to get a dedicated server in the future.

If you are going to host each site is diffrent server than you can think about VPS (Virtual Private server ) almost similar root access and you can get it for US$30/month

I think companies that have colocation is really where a lot of clients make their choice. Dedicated servers, clean enviornment and guaranteed 24/7 online time help make that choice easy. With pricing that is competitive, www.rbwtech.com is really the only solution.

Ya, dedicated server is a good solution nowaday.

MNC likes to purchase their own server hardware and setup these server on their own site. All these require very high upfront cost for hardware purchasing and very high maintenance cost for hiring bunch of engineer to take care of their server on 24 x 7 basis for operation to run.

Why buy when you can rent?

Just rent/least server from provider that offer this service and outsource your support to these provider to reduce all the cost.

Looking for a dedicated server box? I've found http://hostingcrypt.duoservers.com/ to be a very great host.

i would suggest you to opt for the VPS hosting instead, you will get the feel of dedicated server hosting as well and also it is more reliable than the semi dedicated hosting. Semi dedicated hosting is not that reliable

Dedicated servers are best for mid- large scale businesses that needs high performance, security and reliability. And I having your own dedicated server means that you need to manage it, though there are options that you leave the management with your hosting provider. Small businesses usually prefer to have shared hosting services because its much cheaper, and they really don't heavily rely on online business transaction. I guess what you need to first to do in choosing a web hosting service plan is that you assess your specifications or business needs and from there you can choose if you really need to go with a dedicated server hosting.

Managed Dedicated Server hosting is leased for use by the host provider's client. Each server is dedicated for the exclusive use of a single tenant. The clients which are businesses of all sizes and types, run their websites, and manage content and applications, while the host focuses on infrastructure maintenance so the client does not have to deal with server management tasks.
