Do I need dedicated server?
- Security - Being on a dedicated server, you are on your own. You do not share the server with anybody else. Nobody has access to the server. So you can be sure that you data is safe. For example on a shared host in case of mis-configured server some other users on the server might be able to read your data. When on VPS, there is always a sysadmin that can read your data. When on dedicated - nobody is granted access to the server except you.
- CPU power - When on a shared hosting plan or a VPS you share the CPU, RAM and I/O resources with other users on the same server. As any other shared resources, there might be occasions in which a given user will take all the CPU and/or RAM and the server performance can suffer greatly, even a server can go down. The bad thing is that you cannot do anything about it. When on a dedicated, the CPU works only for your site. Yeah, your site can bring the server down too, but at least you have more control over the situation.
- Performance
As explained in the previous paragraph, when you are alone on the server all resources are allocated to your site. So a dedicated server performance cannot be compared to the performance of any other type of hosting plan.
The Downsides
The Greatest downsides are that now, when you have a dedicated server you will need to manage it - configure software, apply security patches, monitor uptime, perform backups - all the regular sysadmin tasks that are being performed by the web host when you are on a shared or a VPS plan. So to be able to run a dedicated server, you must either have the necessary sysadmin skills or have the necessary money to hire a sysadmin to manage the server for you.
Conclusion
Dedicated servers are great. However you need to make up your choice and balance between your budget, skills and your website requirements.

I like the idea of a dedicated server for each website. Even half an hour of a down time can ruin the reputation of a tech website.

I run several servers and I have to say one of the most important thing for me is the option for remote reboot.

I have this problem for one of my template sites (wptemplates.net) is running on a shared server. Today, my hosting company put a temporary block on it because it is using too much of the CPU resources. (some spammers decide to send a lot of spam comments to my demo blog). I am planning to get a dedicated server in the future.

If you are going to host each site is diffrent server than you can think about VPS (Virtual Private server ) almost similar root access and you can get it for US$30/month

I think companies that have colocation is really where a lot of clients make their choice. Dedicated servers, clean enviornment and guaranteed 24/7 online time help make that choice easy. With pricing that is competitive, www.rbwtech.com is really the only solution.

MNC likes to purchase their own server hardware and setup these server on their own site. All these require very high upfront cost for hardware purchasing and very high maintenance cost for hiring bunch of engineer to take care of their server on 24 x 7 basis for operation to run.
Why buy when you can rent?
Just rent/least server from provider that offer this service and outsource your support to these provider to reduce all the cost.

i would suggest you to opt for the VPS hosting instead, you will get the feel of dedicated server hosting as well and also it is more reliable than the semi dedicated hosting. Semi dedicated hosting is not that reliable

Dedicated servers are best for mid- large scale businesses that needs high performance, security and reliability. And I having your own dedicated server means that you need to manage it, though there are options that you leave the management with your hosting provider. Small businesses usually prefer to have shared hosting services because its much cheaper, and they really don't heavily rely on online business transaction. I guess what you need to first to do in choosing a web hosting service plan is that you assess your specifications or business needs and from there you can choose if you really need to go with a dedicated server hosting.

Managed Dedicated Server hosting is leased for use by the host provider's client. Each server is dedicated for the exclusive use of a single tenant. The clients which are businesses of all sizes and types, run their websites, and manage content and applications, while the host focuses on infrastructure maintenance so the client does not have to deal with server management tasks.

That means no other sites are hosted on the same server and it in addition resources the outside company receives care of all server costs and maintenance. log on to the website here for more information: http://www.deepahosting.com/ | Previous: How to pickup a domain? | Next: Why Unlimited or Unmetered hosting packages are not possible? |
